Overview
The Hub is Colorado State University’s comprehensive student services portal, serving as a digital gateway for essential university operations. As the “One Stop Shop” for CSU students, The Hub consolidates what were previously fragmented services across multiple departments into a unified, student-centered experience.
The Challenge
Colorado State University faced a common higher education problem: students needed to navigate multiple disconnected websites and offices to complete basic tasks like registering for classes, applying for financial aid, paying bills, and managing housing. This fragmentation created:
- Student frustration from bouncing between different systems and interfaces
- Increased support burden on staff fielding navigation questions
- Reduced accessibility for students unfamiliar with university bureaucracy
- Information silos where updates in one area weren’t reflected elsewhere
- Inefficient workflows requiring students to repeat information across systems
The Solution
I architected and developed The Hub as a WordPress-based portal that serves as the consolidated front-end for five major student service areas:
1. Registration & Records
- Course registration workflows and documentation
- Academic calendars and important dates
- Transfer credit evaluation processes
- Graduation requirements and degree planning
- GPA calculations and transcript requests
2. Financial Aid
- FAFSA application guidance
- Scholarship information and applications (CSUSA)
- Federal and institutional loan programs
- Grant eligibility and award tracking
- Work-study and student employment resources
3. Billing & Payment
- Tuition and fee schedules
- Payment plan management
- 1098-T tax form information
- Third-party sponsor coordination
- Refund processing
4. Housing & Dining
- Residence hall applications
- Meal plan information
- Housing assignment processes
- Dining services resources
5. Student Support Services
- Basic needs resources
- Health insurance information
- New student checklists
- FAQ sections and self-service tools
